While I am experienced in event planning, I had no formal training. The boot camp, as well as the two- day training session has taught me that I am not as organized as I previously thought! In addition, I have learned how to price for my services depending on the event type and budget as well as how to effectively manage and price preferred vendors.
In the exercise in which we had to research a variety of vendors and compile the data into a spreadsheet, taught me that my own organizational skills can be fine-tuned. While I do keep files of vendors, it is not in an easily accessible and searchable format as the excel spreadsheet we prepared. I can see how my technical skills can grow this organizational structure to include filtering for even higher efficiency and speed in researching and comparing.
The majority of the events I have planned have been part of my job duties and any event planning I have done outside of my job have been pro bono or for a nominal fee, so I had no clue what I should or could charge as a sole event planner. The boot camp has taught me how to appropriately charge for my various event planning services. Specifically, how much to charge by the type of event, the budget, and the service types.
I am comfortable and confident with planning my events large or small regardless of the type of event.
